Pumpkin-Spice Golden Milk

Recently I’ve been trying to slow down my coffee consumption. After doing some research for a caffeine-related article I was writing, and better understanding the effects it can have on our hormones and stress levels, I decided it may be time to consider cutting back.

My morning routine is somethign that I cherish, and I’m someone that lietrally goes to bed excited for my morning coffee. It’s the litle things, people. However, I’ve realized that it’s more the ritual of making and drinking the beverage that I crave, and less a caffeine reliance.

In anticipation of weaning myself of the coffee, I decided to come up with a cozy, caffeine-free drink for the mornings. As we’re now in full-on pumpkin mania (aka October), this spin on a turmeric latté was just the thing.

A combination of pumpkin-spice, turmeric and a touch of maple syrup create a warming morning drink sans caffeine that’s worth getting out of bed for- just what I needed.

Pumpkin-Spice Golden Milk

3/4 tsp pumpkin spice mix

1/4 tsp turmeric

1 tsp pumpkin purée

1 tsp maple syrup

1/4 cup boiling water

1 cup plant-based milk ( I used oat)

  1. Add pumpkin spice, turmeric, pumpkin purée and maple syrup to a mug. Pour in the hot water, and whisk to combine

  2. Steam and froth the milk and add on top. If you don’t have a milk frother/steamer, you can gently steam the milk in a pot and froth it using an electric frother. Alternatively, you can heat the milk and add it to a blender along with the rest of the ingredients and you will get a frothy result.
