Remember those Starbucks Frappucinos you used to always get, until you realized they were awful for you? When I was younger, before me or my friends started drinking coffee, the Frappucino was our Starbs drink of choice. My go-to was the vanilla bean, a drink so sickly-sweet I cringe when I think of it now. While my tastes have definitely matured, I still like to enjoy a nice frozen beverage now and then.
This is kind of coffee + breakfast all rolled into one. A coffee smoothie if you will. In my version of the frappé, the coffee flavour shines through and I ditch all the flavoured syrup. The only sweetener here is a frozen banana, which also gives the drink its thick texture. A nice cold treat that can be made at home, for a fraction of the price of a Frappucino, plus you'll avoid the glares of the employees behind the counter when you rattle off your order for a "venti caramel frappucino add an extra shot- sugar-free syrup- hold the whip". We've all been that person.
I add a pinch of cinnamon because I love it in my coffee, but you could also give it some mocha flare and sub in chocolate-flavoured milk. yumm.
Go on, get your frappé on!
