“All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast”- John Guther.

In my opinion there’s nothing better than being able to take the time to enjoy breakfast and sip my morning coffee without having to rush out the door. Preparing and drinking my coffee is a morning ritual that I cherish. It sets the tone for my day, and fires me up for whatever I have to conquer. Usually, I’m a black coffee gal, but some days I feel like a bit of a treat and I’ll have a cappuccino or a latté.

Lately, I’ve been trying to buy coffee out less to save some cash, so I’ve been experimenting with making specialty coffees at home. I don’t drink cow’s milk, and alternative milks, like almond don’t foam very well because of their low protein content. The barista blend almond milk is an option, but I don’t like to buy it because it has a lot of added sugar.

I have been using this marine-based collagen in my smoothies for about a month, and have really been noticing a difference. My hair looks fuller, my skin is smoother, and my nails are less brittle. One day I decided to try adding a scoop of collagen to my almond milk in my milk frother and -boom! Perfect thick foam. It made a lot of sense, collagen is basically just amino acids in powder form, so adding it to the almond milk gave it more body and structure, much like cow’s milk would have.

Health Benefits of Collagen

In addition to making amazing dairy-free lattes, collagen has some great health benefits too. Collagen is the main structural protein that makes up our skin, cartilage, ligaments, and tendon, and we tend to have less and less of it as we age. Collagen supplementation have been shown to increase skin’s elasticity and hydration, as well as reduce joint pain associated with activity and osteoarthritis

I use a Nespresso milk frother. If you don’t own an automatic milk frother or espresso machine, a manual battery powered one like this will do just fine. Simply heat the milk in the microwave for one to one and a half minutes, then add the cardamom, collagen, and maple syrup and froth with the handheld frother.

Happy caffeinating!
